Cities' street networks shape our daily routines and have recently been shown to influence our cognitive abilities. Growing up in grid-like cities, such as the ones in North America, has been shown to directly hinder our natural ability to navigate the world later in life when compared to European upbringings. This project embraces open source cartography as a creative medium, and plans to simulate the organic exploration patterns of ants to artistically reimagine the urban landscapes of cities in the Netherlands and Canada, two countries with drastically different approaches to city design. Through this process, the project will explore the potential of open-source data and software to offer new perspectives on urban environments.Â
